YEAR 7 DEBATING AND PUBLIC SPEAKING

This year has been a challenging one for students studying Debating and Public Speaking. Being stuck at home during Remote Learning and unable to speak in person has created some challenges.

This all changed, however, when it came to the Debating Association of Victoria. For the first time, Year Seven students were able to go up against other schools and debate about complex topics over Zoom, but still being forced to think on their feet. This was the first time these volunteers had ever debated outside of their school and they were incredibly successful!

Out of three debates, the Year 7s won two decisively - and even the one where they lost, they still won best speaker from the DAV! An incredible round of applause for these five volunteers -- Fatima Zahra, Merina Ashraf, Shaiza Taqvi, Syeda Shireen Haider and Salma Abdirahman. A truly fantastic introduction to the world of competitive debating!
